postsecret

The postsecret postcard idea was a good way of letting the guilt off your chest to the person you are holding the secret from. I found a photo of a PC and windows 8 and made that the background, and it represents the secret i have. This is because i own a PC computer(not really, fake secret) that my parents gave me as a gift but ive always used apple products and am a mac guy, which they dont know and i would feel bad telling them that id rather have another computer than the PC. But, oh well. My audience would be to people who have trouble identifying if they are a PC or Mac person. I think my design maches the secret because it embodies the essence of the problem: miicrosoft windows.

peer review

I think todays peer review went very well. My revision process will include me adding more detail in my essay while clarifying some points that i realized were confusing. The most effective peer review format would probably this on because it helped me find the points of my essay that weren't so clear and i now have suggestions to correct the errors rather just underlining. A main part i will add to the essay is a personal experience of a sweatshop worker so i can catch the attention of readers and elaborate more on their situation.

spoof ad

This spoof ad appeals to me because of the way it works to mock mcdonalds. The use of red and yellow, the colors of McDonald, highlights the hazard sign on the fries, which is important to prove to the readers that fries are rather dangerous to your health. Also the needle going into the burger is another way of representing the quality of the food with all the chemical enhancements, used to gross our customers. It is evident this ad is making fun of mcdonalds ads because it contains  the image of a meal, fries, drink, and burger  Each looking poisonous in its own way.

magazine ad

This ad is advertising for buffalo wild wings bar and grill, and is using the visual play of a beer in the center of the table with hands surrounding it, grabbing for it. The words "jump ball" are near the center along with several other beers and wings on the table. The lifestyle this ad promotes is an active, sporty lifestyle were friends go out to watch the game and have a few drinks and food. The ad is geared toward an audience of sports fans and mid-young friends rather than families or young kids. The ad suggests that if i go to buffalo wild wings, i would have a fun time with friends with good wings and chilled beer. It touches on pathos because sometimes you just feel a night to relax and hang with the guys, or a group of friends chilled.

story

When you wake up to the sound of the TV blasting a football game, you know what day it is; College game day. Slowly i wake up from a long night out to here my roommates already getting into the festivities of what i consider my favorite day of the week. As i walk into the living room i see a college football game being played on the TV, friends wearing all the FSU gear they can, and the first of many batches of drinks being distributed. Game day, its simply an occasion to celebrate every week. As kickoff approaches within a few hours, we rush to leave our place for the tailgate to get as much fun in as we can before the game. The tailgate serves as a place for all our friends to congregate and have a great time in the great weather outside before we all walk to the stadium together  Its been a long day of drinking and games, and finally its close to tip off. We begin to make the oh so forgetful journey to Doak, to gather with even more people to root on  our school. After we pass security, we make our necessary concession stop and on the way to our seats. The atmosphere at the game was nothing less then unbelievable. Watching all the on field occasions such as the spear throw, cheerleaders, band, and all the necessary Seminole traditions makes me realize how great of a school this is. The Seminoles blew out the team, and this lead to more celebrations after the game and through the night. It was a good first game day for me. I can defiantly get used to this.

Blogger reflection

I mainly focused on the information that students that didn't attend class would need to know because it would be beneficial to them in their abscence. Everything we did in class, i tried to document on the blog. I included 2 images in the blog, one of the class working to show it was a typical day and another of the rubric chart that the student would need to see if they weren't in class. As the class blogger, my perspective changed of the classroom. I realized how much the entire class worked together as a group rather individually working at our computers.

Monday

We began class talking about Ms. Lang's unfortunate events to her car this past weekend. If you were waiting to recieve some work back from her, talk to her because her backpack was stolen. She then went over the requirements for the essay due on Wednesday, such as the works cited page. Next up, we completed the mid semester evaluation located on her blog site (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHUzaU9IcVdwRU9ndTBybHFDR0Y1dHc6MQ#gid=0). Once the evaluations were finished, we moved onto constructing our rubric. The steps: Review the assignment sheet, list 10 things to be graded, then rank them in order of importance. Then we got into groups and combined our information into the chart to show what each group thought were the 10 most important things to be graded on. We ended class with a final chart of the rubric. We did not reach the discussion of our HW (on writing, pg. 542), so it will be discussed next class.

The peer review today was pretty constructive. I realized i oils mention more about how essential football and thi program is for Fsu. He helped me identify my strongspots in my essay and the parts i should keep or strengthen. Also i am going to fix some sentence structure bugs as well as make the transitions smoother. Overall i believe this session was beneficial for my essay construction.

The highlights and the underlines help to see where my strengths of my points are and where i sort of fall off topic. With this review, i could refocus my essay easier on points that i know are on topic. Also, my next draft will eliminate the weaker sentences and points and there will be greater support for the points that were stressed by the highlight. The essay is easier to break up and re edit because i now know the sections and parts that i need to reconstruct without taking out the better parts.

Starry Starry Night

Don Mclean's song "starry starry night" has a strong connection with Vincent Van Gogh's painting "starry night" through the continuing theme of darkness seen in both pieces of art. Don Mclean emphasizes the concepts of insanity, and the darkness of the world seen through both artists' perspectives. The lurid color of the painting illustrates the agony in Vincent Van Gogh's life as it is parallel to the lyrics in Don Mclean's song. "But I could have told you, Vincent, the world was never meant for one as beautiful as you," are the lyrics of Starry Starry Night, that display the emotion within Van Gogh's painting. The connection they have is the physical darkness of the painting with implores that Vince's soul was also in a dark state.

I will analyze the key points of seminole boosters and correlate how the pictures on the site support their program. I will approach this by reflecting on the themes of every image and see how it supports the purpose of the program. I chose this topic because it had a mission statement and is a very large program at FSU. My peer asked the purpose of seminole boosters, and and what type of photos would prompt seminole boosters.

1. The photograph is of a little girl ready to throw a tantrum. She is standing in the middle of a hallway with an upset look and anger.

2. The photograph is composed to focus the attention on the little girl down the hall because she is the only object in the image. Her dress draws my attention because it looks like one youd put on a doll, which shows that she is still a little girl.

3. The photograph is about a short story that could be dragged out. She wants something, and she wont stop until she gets it, whether it be with her bad attitude or not.

4. My position as a son influences this photo because ive been at that age where i would hassle my parents with temper tantrums until i got the toy that i wanted. I can relate to the little girl because i too would have had that look at my parents if they wouldnt get me what i wanted.

The introduction of my paper leads in with a story of my thesis that would ease readers into the topic and it leaves readers wondering how these shows really did change me. My conclusion does a good job summing up my main points of the essay and stressing the key qualities of me that have changed in effect from the shows i discussed in the essay. I tried to paint a picture of the kid I've grown up to be also in the conclusion for readers to understand how I've become a different person. The conclusion does answer the "so what" question because it teaches people to be grateful over the shows they watch as kids and and that all this learned from these shows serve a purpose in life.

Today's peer review really gave me confidence in my essay, and i feel like it is close to the final draft. I will change the grammar errors i made but i feel like the general idea i has is the one i will stick with. The review made me aware of the strengths of my essay and also the weakness'. I plan to work on my conclusion more but other than that i am happy with the end draft of this review.

Some critical changes i am going to make in my paper are to reduce the number of shows i talk about for each era; in order to focus on one show deeply. For my childhood shows i must go in more depth on my analysis, rather than just writing about how i learned about friendship and responsibility. I will have show that the world seemed like a friendly place and that it was a lovable atmosphere. Also for my present day era, i would have to make sure that i stress the world and reality is hitting me hardest at this time. Nowadays its not how i view the world or what i think about it, moreover im living it and shit is real now. These changes will help the reader see how the things that i learned from the show created me outlook on the world and people around me.

Today's workshop provided a lot of insight on my essay for me. For instance, i found out how i should focus my essay on solely how i as a person grew up. We worked on the organization of my essay, and how i should place each topic in order. The workshop benefited on how i should also begin and conclude the essay in a strong connected way. The shows i picked to describe me in my draft were solid, but my group helped how i would relate to them even more.

Joan Didion began her essay discussing how John Wayne was her childhood prince she imagined sweeping girls by their feet. We notice that  through her personal experiences with him, she notices change in him. This change into action movies, manly parts, and the south cali cowboy lifestyle of John Wayne had her dream quite twisted. I feel she no longer adored him for being the guy that would one day come and sweet talk her into falling in love with him, but rather for the cowboy life form out west. When she meet with her infatuation for dinner all these years later, her dream had become reality but not in the sense she hoped. Her facing what she had imagined John to be was a trip, because he wasn't the guy that she had sworn in her dreams.

Will Smith's performance in the film "The Pursuit of Happiness" had an impacting effect on me as i saw his character do what he had to do to provide for his son. Though his wife left him for his earlier failure, though he became homeless with a son, though he didn't have the tools and chances to become successful, he still went out to fight for his opportunity. His hard work had lead him to the chance to become a stock broker, where he made it big. It might just be the classic rags to riches story that gets me but i feel he had such a great drive to become successful for his son.

Anne Lamott's essay of "Shitty First Drafts" opened up a new way of writing for me. For the most part i did believe that great writers need not hesitate when they sat down to draft. Rather, i believed that the words came flowing into their head. When i realized that they do also have trouble getting started and putting words on paper, it made me realize that getting words on the paper is the most important part. Once you put those ideas on paper, everything will go from there. I paused as i realized that everything i put down the first time can just be for the sake of creating ideas for the real topic.

A writing task for me is a grueling, lengthy "one-sit" type of process. In that, i mean that getting my task done in one effort without having to go back and edit it over a span of time is what i preferred. This process is one of late nights, and several mindblocks that gobbles up time. For instance, rather write a shitty sentence and get a good word out of it and go from there, i would sit in my chair for 20 minutes pondering on the right sentence. This causes my writing process to be very slow, but end in one effort. My first draft seems to be my final draft with just some grammatical corrections.

Writing is frying eggs. In the beggenning its raw, but once its cooked the final product is delicious.
